An Evaluation of the Human Urinary Microbiome and Urinary Symptoms in Space
To study the impact of spaceflight on the urinary microbiome, research clinicians from Sheba Medical Center, Thomas Jefferson University and others monitored the microorganism populations in the urinary tracts of the Ax-1 crew members before launch, during the mission and after their return to Earth.
By leveraging MicroGenDX’s genetic analysis tools and advanced algorithms and cross-referencing the insights with emerging clinical signs during the mission, this study seeks to provide unprecedented insights into the correlation between urinary microbiome properties and the development of symptoms and morbidity. These insights will drive breakthroughs in our understanding of the microbiome’s clinical impact on urinary health, paving the way for better medical treatments for astronauts and patients on Earth alike.
