Earth  Signal Universe Wide is an electromagnetic sculpture formed by radio  transmissions from the International Space Station and several locations on  Earth. The sculpture’s form extends beyond the boundaries of the solar  system. Refracted by Earth and other celestial objects, it expands through  the vacuum of space at the speed of light. As it travels further from its  source, the ISS, the transmission slowly fades. Radio waves transmitted on  Earth inevitably lose their energy, affected by atmospheric, ionospheric and  geomagnetic weather conditions. Conversely, radio waves in space maintain  their energy, expanding infinitely outward while their amplitude decreases.  Earth Signal Universe Wide is therefore shaped like a downward slope of  energy, a gradient, a sweeping brushstroke beginning at the ISS and reaching  out to the edge of the universe. The wave emitted from the station carries  seismographic data documenting movements large and small on Earth’s surface,  including the ever-present low-frequency vibrations that do not amount to  earthquakes.
